grapefruit + basil gin fizz

The juice cleanse is over! Let's celebrate with a bagel and a drink.

Just kidding.


I ate the bagel yesterday. Oops.


But, you should definitely still make this drink! It combines all my favorite things from great summer cocktails: tasty gin, tart citrus, hints of basil and sweetness. Totally refreshing and the perfect way to celebrate any accomplishment. 

Grapefruit + Basil Gin Fizz
serves two - very easy to double/triple/quadruple!

- 3 oz. {about two shots} good gin - Hendrick's is my favorite!
- juice on one grapefruit {or about 1/2 cup}
- juice of one lime {or about 2 T}
- 3 T of basil lime simple syrup 
- ice
- club soda, for topping off
- limes and grapefruit twist for garnish
  1. Combine the first five ingredients in a cocktail shaker, and shake until mixed well.
  2. Pour over ice, and top with club soda.
  3. Enjoy!

Basil Lime Simple Syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 basil leaves
- zest of one lime {about 1 tsp}
  1. Mix all ingredients in a small saucepan. Gently bruise basil with a spoon to bring out flavor. 
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly.
  3. Turn down heat, and let gently simmer for a few minutes until a light syrup forms. Be careful not to burn! {Keep this delicious syrup on hand to mix up delicious cocktails on a whim!}

  2. I am totally trying this! A basil gin fizz sounds amazing. Plus grapefruit to add a little sweetness and tang? So in.
